Acupuncture and IVF:
How They Work Together

By Ronen Rosenblatt-Nir, Lic.Ac.  ·  January 2026  ·  7 min read

For couples navigating fertility treatment, acupuncture has become an increasingly respected adjunct — not as an alternative to IVF, but as a complementary support that may improve outcomes and significantly reduce the stress of the process.

What Acupuncture Can Support in Fertility

In clinical practice, I work with women and men at different stages of their fertility journey. Acupuncture is not a fertility treatment in isolation — it is used to support the body's conditions for conception and to work alongside, not instead of, medical fertility care.

When to Start

Ideally, acupuncture support begins 2–3 months before an IVF cycle — enough time to work with the full cycle of follicular development. That said, acupuncture begun closer to a retrieval or transfer can still provide meaningful support, particularly for stress and uterine blood flow.

A Note on Claims

It's important to be honest: the research on acupuncture and IVF success rates is mixed and ongoing. Some studies show benefit; others show no significant effect on live birth rates. What the evidence does consistently support is acupuncture's effect on stress, quality of life, and patient experience during fertility treatment — and these matter enormously.

My approach is always to work collaboratively with your fertility specialist, to be transparent about what acupuncture can and cannot offer, and to tailor treatment to your individual situation.
